My grandfather was William Aitken with a sister Mary Aitken. They were both born in Newcastle and orphaned at a very early age. Their parents were Andrew and Sarah Snith Aitken whom I haverecently found that Andrew came from another Andrew Aitken born in approx 1920 in Scotland. His wife was Elizabeth Aitken. They had several children as follows: John born 1842, Catherine 1845 (who may have died at a early age), Elizabeth 1847, Alexander 1848, Andrew 1857, Catherine 1862, and finally Robert in 1863. Elizabeth and Andrew may have been the landlords to the Royal Oak, Baillifgate in Newcastle. Robert may have continued to run it after them. My grandfather William Aitken immigrated to Canada first to Winnipeg and then to Vancouver early 1920's I think. He married Annie Hatley and they had 2 children William and Mary Veronica Aitken. William was my father whom passed in 2005. He has asked that I carry on with his searching and his father William would not talk of his orphan years. My grandfather also left behind his sister Mary who s married name we believe was Martin. She had two children Bernard and Michael. My dads sister (Mary Veronica) used to write to Bernard and Michael during the war but she has passed and I have no idea how to find them.. Any info would be appreciated...Aitkens of Newcastle. Willilam Aitken was born in 1891 in Newcastle and his sister Mary was probably born very soon after..poss 1892. Mary had skin cancer on her face and I believe died in her late 20's early 30's.
