My grt grandfather ALEXANDER MACKENZIE was born 1844 in Muir of Ord where his father JOHN had a drapery and Post Office. John married twice but his 1st wife Mary Mackenzie was mother to ALEXANDER' and his brother THOMAS b 1842. His 2nd wife Ann Henderson would have been mother to Mary Ann known as ANNIE , JAMES a seaman and DUNCAN also missing from our ken. I have lost track of THOMAS who on his father's death certificate on 1880 was at 6 Jeffreys Square ,London. In 1881 census he was with his siblings at 3 Wellington Square and at aged 23 a Commercial clerk. It seems that ALEXANDER had married and been widowed so Aunt Annie his half sister was keeping house and took on the raising of his daughter Mary Christina. With 3 tailors in the house they may have been running a drapery business there. Any bells ringing out there as we shake the branches of those trees?
