I have managed to find this for you on the son, Robert. of course you may already have it but at least it confirms the spelling of the surname for your searches. it looks as though Walter had left the family at this stage but you will see it is the same family and he has a son called Walter too. I am assuming you have access to all the research sites but if this is not the case do get back to me and I will see if I can help.

Hello, I'm looking for Walter Johnson/Johnston b N. Ireland. He married Annie Carruthers in Co Down in 1867. After their first child Robert was born they came to Johnstone Renfs Scotland and had many more children. There is a family story that Walter, possibly a stone mason, saw an advert for men to go to USA to build a bridge which he did but never returned!!!!!!!!!!Dying to know what happened to him?? Irene.
