The death record ties up with the date of birth you have, although this is only accurate if the informant of the death actually knew the correct date!: Name: Eva Ivy Smith Birth Date: 16 Sep 1916 Death Registration Month/Year: Mar 1998 Age at death (estimated): 81 Registration district: Leeds Inferred County: Yorkshire Register number: E23C Entry Number: 30 Very strange. I'll check again but definately couldn't see her. Could it be possible that her parents weren't married when she was born and she is registered under her mothers maiden name? Sam x

What was her surname when she died? Her death record on the BMD indexes should have her date of birth on it. Are you sure she was born in Selby? There is an Eva May registered in Q2 of 1916 but in Sheffield. Sam x

hi sam i have no birth cert all can tell you is that she thought she was the queen she had 2 birthdays lol she always said that on her birth cert she was born on 16th sept 1916 but she always said she was born on 16th august 1916 & when we were young we never questioned it but now doing the family tree its becoming a puzzle and she seams to have taken queite a few things to the grave with her including the name of my fathers dad she died 28th feb 1998 in leeds not sure what to do now guess that side of the tree will remain a mistery many many thanks jacky

You won't find her in a census as the most recent census available to view is 1901 and she hadn't been born then. You need to get her birth certificate which will tell you her parents names and hopffully you should be able to find them on a census. Also, where have you had her birth date from? There isn't an Eva or Ivy May registered in Q3 1916. Sam x
