Hi all, a friend has asked me if i can give any advice on this issue and am hoping somebody can help. He has a relative who was awarded the MC (WW1) which they still have in the family, however, they are unaware of the circumstances that led to this award. I have tried the obvious, searching online and can find nothing ref this, apart from his medal card on NA which did not show the award. Can anybody advise the next move ? My friend would be willing to engage the services of a specialised researcher if necessary but obviously again he would appreciate any recommendations , Many thanks people Donna

Hi Esther My grandfather had one of these and it's not mentioned on his medal card either. You need the London Gazette as they are all in there. I had fun and games finding my grandfather's mention as it did not show in the indexes but I had a rough idea of the date of the award. The London Gazette may not give you full details but you may find further details in the paper local to where he/his family lived at the time. London Gazette is available online. Jill
