What a wonderful surprise. Just got up and switched on to find information from Andrew, Jennifer and Nibbo. Andrew - have tried every spelling permutation I could think of to no avail. Jennifer and Nibbo - your information certainly looks good. I have noted it all. Apart from stupid, why on earth couldn't I find the marriage etc. I looked for hours and hours. Mind you, I am still puzzled as to why Fdk does not seem to appear on the 61, 71, 81 and 91 census - the original invisible man perhaps !!! Thank you all so much

I am assisting someone with their family line of Reddick. We have Frederick William Reddick born 1841/2 Cobham, Surrey. Frederick's parents are Thomas and Elizabeth. A sighting of Frederick was found on the 1851 census, aged 9. Since that time, I have been unable to find him on any census. (A GR member Mary Whetton also kindly tried to find him on the census returns for me). Frederick had elder siblings Richard 1823, Robert 1827, Francis 1829, Ann 1831, Mary 1835, Susannah 1837, Benjamin 1940/1. Anyway, Frederick married an Elizabeth (no surname) who according to family heresay was a gypsy. They had to our knowledge 3 sons - James 1872, Frederick 1882 and Robert 1886. The mystery now deepens - 1. I can't find Frederick Snr's birth reg anywhere 2. I can't find a marriage for Frederick Snr 3. I can't find a birth reg for Robert Reddick b. 1882. 4. I can't find Frederick, wife Elizabeth and 3 sons on 1881, 1891 or 1901 census !!! Frederick Snr. died and was buried December 1918 in Coventry. How can one person be so anonymous - no census appearance from the age of 9, no marriage , no birth reg for his children. I notice that Frederick was about 30 when his son James was born so presumably he married late - if at all !! His wife/partner possibly being of the gypsy fraternity, is it possible that they didn't bother with 'legal' marriage or birth registration/baptism? Also, is it possible that Frederick was shipped out to Australia for some misdemeanour which would explain his late journey into marriage and fatherhood. I just don't know what on earth to think and have no idea where to look now at all. Has anyone any bright ideas or a sudden flash of inspiration. Incidentally, Frederick Snr's siblings appear as adults on various census returns and appear to have stayed in the Cobham, surrey area. H E L P !!!! before I go mad
