There is no magic way, you just have to trawl each qtr on ancestry, pick off likely ones, and eliminate them. What makes you doubt your mothers fathers name - was he entered on her birth cert?

i am trying to trace the DEATH of John Mears born 1897 Battersea, London. he married Louie Josaphine Haxton in Wandsworth in 1927 thier first child Julian (changed to john when he was older) was born in 1932, my mother was born in 1942 and she doubt whether he was in fact her father. so his death could have been from 1932 onwards. i know this is such a long shot in the dark but iam really interested in finding his death as it was rumoured he was in broadmoor mental hospital in berkshire. i had asked before but i have since got a copy of certificate of marriage to establish his age etc thanks michelle
