Again many thanks for your help. I am sure Ann married her visitor John Robinson as she was down as Ann Robinson living with her son John and his family in 1881. I can either apply for this marriage cert. to see whether she is unmarried or a widow. Alternatively I could request copies of her 3 sons birth certs. to see her name. I cannot think of how else I will be able to get any further. Regards Moira

Hi in both the 1861 and 1871 census she is down as being unmarried. I can't find a marriage for her but assuming the three boys had the same father, John, he would have died between 1857 and 1876. There is a death in Durham for John Eltringham in 1857 and one in Newcastle in 1864. Hi clutching at straws almost. Have an Ann Eltringham born circa 1831 Head with 3 sons Robert. John and Thomas. 0n John's marriage cert. in 1876 his father is John Eltringham (deceased) but when I applied for his birth cert. I was told there was no father named. Wondered if there ever was a John senior or if Ann was never married. There is an Ann Eltringham listed on the 1851 Ryton Woodside census age 20 living with her mother and siblings. She is listed as a dressmaker on 3 census, quite possibly the same Ann. Moira
