There's a certificate of freedom for a William Peat in NSW in 1836 - it obviously isn't your man, because he was transported in 1829, but it might be worth noting so you don't get the two of them mixed up. http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/searchform.aspx?Table=Index+to+Certificates+of+Freedom&Surname=peat&First=william%25&Page=

I have a rellie named William Peat born 1825 who was transported to Tasmania in 1845 on the ship Marion 2. At the end of his 7 year sentence I think I have found him leaving Tasmania bound for Melbourne in 1851 on the ship Shamrock. I would like to try and find any info on him from when he arrived in Melboune. Also on the same ship going to Melbourne was another William Peat which states he was born in the colonies and I wondered if this could be his son. I was not able to find any other Peats on this ship though nor a request for him as a prisoner to get married. Many thanks Wendy
