How to get records for parish church in smarden I have Mary Buckman b 1816 Smarden m Richard Roots befor 1836 I have info on there 8 children trying to go back more need help Maureen in oze

There is this entry on the IGI - Mary Ann Buckman Christened: 23 JUN 1811 High Halden, Kent, England Father: William Buckman Mother: Charlotte I looked up High Halden parish to see where it was and it is within Ashford, Kent. I then looked up Smarden and this also was stated as being located near Ashford, Kent. So, although I cannot say for definite the above christening is your girl - this is a candidate for consideration and further research. Also, whilst Googling, I stumbled across a website that mentions a few Buckman's - if you Google: Smarden Parish Records - Removal Orders -the website should come up. Could be worthwhile making a note of the names for future reference. Regards Athena

That's interesting, Leics Lass - so he was born same year and place as the Mary Ann I found above! That adds even more weight to the Mary Ann christening being the correct one, I think. Maureen - did Mary Ann have any children named William or Charlotte by any chance? (Thinking she may have named some after her parents perhaps) Athena

Leics Lass - those are the names that Maureen PMd me. Where did you find them? I was trying to find the family on the 1841/51 census - couldn't see them. Found births of some of them - West Ashford district (found an Epsiba Roots 1840 West Ashford). Maureen says she has the birth cert of Charles Roots b1845 - I guess this is where it says mother's name of Mary Buckman. What surname did you find for Mary and where? Athena

Could be that Richard was married twice - both named Mary. Found the family on the 1861 census and have PMd Maureen with info. There was also a son named George bc1858 (aged 3 yrs on census). Athena
