Hi I am trying to trace a relation of mine, George Whitehead (b.1824) in LOUGHBOROUGH, LEICESTERSHIRE, according to the 1871 census. He married a lady named Elizabeth Winfield in Nottingham on March 1, 1848 (I got this info from their marriage certificate). From the marriage certificate I found that George's father was also named George. I then had trouble finding him on the census, but think I found him on the 1841 census, listed as George Whitchead, born in 1804 in CHURCH ASTON, YORKSHIRE, and married to a lady named Ann (b. 1801) in East Leake, Nottingham. I also found them in the 1851 census living with other children. However, I cannot trace any futher back than this. If anyone who has access to the parish records of Notts, Leicestershire or Yorkshire could help I would be very greatful. Thanks Gemma.

Who were the witnesses on the marriage certificate? What was Georges occupation (both of them)? Where have you had George snr's birthplace from? You mention 1841 census but this doesn't give place of birth, just whether born in the county or not. Sam x

Hi Sam George (b. 1824) was a house painter. As for his fathers place of birth, I got this info from the 1871 census, although I did not make a note of his profession. Thanks Gemma.

Hi Gemma I thought you said you have the marriage certificate? If so, can you give the occupation of BOTH Georges and also the names of any witnesses. How do you know that the George and Ann in 1871 are the parents of your George? Sam x
