Hi, looking for John Eltringham Circa 1830 and his wife Ann Circa 1831 in Ryton/Gateshead area. They had 3 sons but their births were between Census I believe Robert Circa 1852, John Circa 1855 and Thomas Circa 1858. Moira

Thought I'd check 1861 first to confirm children. I see that Ann is the head. She was listed as unmarried but that was crossed out and replaced with either M for married or W for widow. Hard to say but I think it's W. Children are Robert 9, John 6, and Thomas 3, all born Ryton. Update, I see Maureen beat me to it but Barbara Strong is not with the family, just a neighbour.

I think Ann Eltringham was a single mom. She's on the 1851 census living with mother and siblings. She's aged 20, a dressmaker. In 1861 she's aged 30, a dressmaker, born Ryton both times. Margaret

Hi, many thanks everyone for the info. I applied for John Eltringham Circa 1855 birth cert - my 2xgt. grandfather and Gateshead Reg.0ffice rang to say they had a birth 1854, mother named but no father's name. 0n John's marriage cert. his father is named as John Eltringham (deceased). Ann later on had a visitor staying John Robinson and on the 1881 Census she was Ann Robinson. Wonder if I apply for her marr. cert to Robinson if it will give her maiden name. Going through my notes I have a marriage of John Eltringham and Ann Curtis 29 April 1848 Gateshead, wonder if that's them. Moira
