help!!! marriage registred twice-or so it seems!

I found a marriage of see below in a mo

Winifred F strong and Eric P Mills. 1914 Exeter OND 5b 216 then when I was looking for something else I found Winifred F Strong and Eric P MIlls 1917 Exeter JAS 5b 134. Am I going crackers-why would it be ? There wren't two Eric P Mills in the births and can only see one Winifred as well-please can someone help-have to put son to bed now but be back later to see if anyone can help-Thanks in avance to anyone who can.

I would be very tempted to ring the local RO at Exeter and ask them if they can tell you if it is the same couple. The only time I have seen this before, was when the first marriage was in a Registry Office and the second one was in a Synagogue! OC

Possibly he was in the Army and first marriage was without his Commanding Officer's consent, this would have been required if his wife was to be taken on strength after the marriage. It is not unknown for a second marriage to have taken place for this reason. Jennifer

OOOHHHH I found one of these today myself...... Mary DAYMAN Richard STAPLEY Marriage entries... 1873 Mar Bromley 2a 411 OR Jun 1873 Bromley 2a 511 Not going to follow it up as it's just a sibling of direct line and I'm not rich enough to buy all those certs LOL. I guessed it was reg office followed by church, but do you think this is right?

Thanks for that-He might well have met ehr through the army-nearly all the Strong family were in the military in one way or another-I might give the Records office a buzz as well-Thanks all for your help x

I have one which appears in Parish Registers twice. 25/12/1777 by licence, only bride from that parish 23/02/1778 Banns both from the parish Don't really understand that either. Christine
