Hi Scarlet, Thank-you for finding the family in the 1851 Census, you're a gem! If Ann Bray is John's mother, then it narrows down this list for finding his parent's marriage & his marriage (to only 20 something possibilities!)... The 1861 information isn't them - there was another Bray family, John & Tabitha, but they're younger (which is who you've found). I'm still leaning towards Tabitha being as I mentioned in my first post - I haven't made a connection to the family she is with though (no relationship mentioned on the transcript I found). Sue, thankyou for finding that one - I have it bookmarked as possibly being Ann, but the birthplace leaves a question-mark. Naming patterns are useful until you find WAY too many people with the same name (& it doesn't help when 4 members of one family marry 4 members of another!)

I'm hoping there may be someone with access to Ancestry (or similar) that might be able to have a look in the 1851 Census for the following family (approximate ages for 1851 census in brackets): John Bray (37) Cornwall Tabitha ' (37) Cornwall BRAY Ann ' (13) Cornwall BRAY Mary ' (10) Cornwall I have them on the 1841 Census, Piece: HO107/147/12 Place: Powder -Cornwall Enumeration District: 3 Civil Parish: Kea Ecclesiastical Parish: - Folio: 32 Page: 6 Address: Kilster I also know that they had a son, John, b 1836, Kenwyn, as well as 5 more daughters between 1845 and 1854. Tabitha Jane (1845) Kenwyn Edith (1848) ' Mary Emma (1851) Withiel Gertrude Ann (1852) ' Elizabeth Hannah (1854) ' I haven't been able to find any of them on the 1861 Census. Tabitha 'might' be on the 1861 census, Widow, aged 46, staying at 19 Sussex St, London - I haven't been able to confirm if it is the same Tabitha.
