Well, it seems that Eleanor Beedham is not my Eleanor Jones. I got a £4 refund today because the father's name wasn't George Jones on the wedding certificate. I'm gutted. There are so many possibilities with such a common name. I haven't even started on her younger sister Elizabeth Jones yet....

I'm such a doofus. I just found the reference checking bit on the ONS site.... Doh! Thanks for all your help. I'll keep you posted on this one. It would be wonderful if Ellen Beedham turned out to be a relative and had married and had children...

Try gro in Southport. there is a reference checking section or you could phone them, Joan £7 per certificate if you know the reference number. Joan

Joan, I order my certs from the ONS. I don't recall seeing a section where I can put in the father's name. Is there somewhere else I can order from that will let me do that? (sorry to be a bit dense)..

No, I have no certificates except for a wedding cert for an Eleanor Jones that I bought and it was the wrong one! That's why I really want to have as much info as I can before I order another cert. Eleanor Jones was my great grandfather's sister. We all thought he only had one brother who died in WW1 and I was amazed to discover (through the census records) that he had three sisters too. However, can I find any of them in certificate form? No. Darned common names.

I think the way is to order the marriage cert giving her father's name as a reference, That way you will not be charged the full amount if it doesn't match, Good luck, Joan

Yes, the baby died as well. Albert was born and died in the same Quarter (Mar) of 1900 the same quarter that Eleneaor died in. I can find a birth record for Ellen Beedham Jan 1896 born in West Ham Essex. That isn't too far from Poplar. Do you think that's her daughter? I'd really like to pin them down in 1891. I need to know her age and place of birth to know whether it's worth ordering the wedding certificate....

Hi Lesley/Suzanne, do you have any of the certificates ? I can't find them in 1891 except an Albert Beden b 1870 in Aldershot Barracks. Joan

I'm trying to find Alfred and Eleanor Beedham who married in Mile End in 1888 in the 1891 census. She was born in 1872 in Hoxton/Shoreditch and was last seen in the 1881 census as Eleanor Jones living with her parents in Shandy Street Mile End. By 1891 she has disappeared. She died in childbirth in 1900 in Mile End after giving birth to Alfred Jnr. and I'm trying to find out of she was my elusive Eleanor Jones, but despite trying all the name variations I can think of, I can't find either of them. Any suggestions?
