Hi, I am sure the spelling is correct. I have his Marriage Certificate. He is on the 1901 Census but down as Ai. They are in Syndale West Yorkshire at this time and I know that this is where they stayed but I am told they came down from Staffordshire for the Mining Jobs

I'm not sure whether this is him in 1871 or not - its the same family as 1881 and the names transcriped was Walk are Ward - it appears John Ward is the brother of the head of household and then Hannah - neice but the name looks like Allick and the age is a bit off so might be barking up the wrong tree!!: Name: Albck Wark Age: 14 Estimated birth year: abt 1857 Relation: Nephew Gender: Male Where born: Methley, Yorkshire, England Civil parish: Featherstone Ecclesiastical parish: Featherstone Town: Featherstone County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration district: Pontefract Sub-registration district: Pontefract ED, institution, or vessel: 4 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 152 Household Members: Name Age Ben Ward 17 Friend Ward 12 Geoge Ward 43 Jane Ward 40 Jrael Ward 3 Mark Ward 7 Sarah Ward 19 William Ward 21 Albck Wark 14 Hannah Wark 14 John Wark 50 Joseph Wilson 26 Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 4634; Folio: 64; Page: 33; GSU roll: 848405.

Kate You don't sound thick - we are all just learning. You could get a birth cert for him but you have to have the year, quarter, district before you can order it. I have looked at 1860 - 1864 for A Ward and there is nothing that resemble's Aie or any of the other names mentioned - so not much help there. sorry Jane

I have found the son's birth - his name is registered as: Ai Ward April Q 1888 Pontefract Vol 92 page 107. This would suggest that his name was Ai but I still can't find his birth sorry. Jane

Hi, Thanks Jane and Andrea for your help. Andrea in 1861 are the others listed John and Harriots children? It could well be his birth think I am going to have to try and find out as I just cant find anything that resembles Aie. It spells his name Aie on his Marriage Certificate. Thanks for your help so far and anymore greatly appreciated. Kate x

All the children in 1861 are given as son/dau except Nancy and Hannah where it is left blank. On the 1871 where they're down as Wark John is given as brother to George Ward, Hannah as niece and Allick (that's what image looks like and I think it gives his age as 11) as nephew so I would guess that Hannah was John's daughter
