Hi All Have just found out that a Greatx4 Grandfather John Mcdowell came down from Scotland to fight for the English in the Napoleonic Wars, along with his brother and after the wars they settled on the Isle of Wight. A relative researching believes that the brothers were originally from Troon in Ayrshire. Is there anyway that someone could possibily search for a baptism please. All I know is that John Mcdowell married on the Isle of Wight in 1832, and died 1841 on Isle of Wight, wife remarried. I believe from his date of death he was born approx 1777? Currently I do not know the brothers name, but a education guess at moment would be James. Thanks for any help or suggestions Joanna

According th the Isle of Wight records here: http://www.isle-of-wight-fhs(.)co.uk/bmd/start.htm (remove brackets) it was a James McDowell who died in 1841 aged 64.

Margaret I looked on the Isle of Wight Family History Site and saw that, but I have been to the record office myself and I am certain it was John, but will go and recheck, this is why I thought the brother may of been James Mcdowell. Thanks Margaret Joanna
