They don't give all that information!!! They will just normally give name and medal entitlement and regiment, soif it's a common name and you don't know which regiment he was in, you probably won't be able to tell which is the right one. His service records, if they survive,will enable you to be sure you have the right man.

They will give you his date and place of birth and if you are lucky maybe the fathers name. All of his military or naval life history too

I have been on the national archives looking for details of family in world war 1..could somebody tell what information medal cards contain. Do they have enough info to confirm they belong to my family? thanks alison
