thanks for that. i think that ralphs wife mary ellenor(proudlock) is my gr gr grandmother but she had my gr grandfather out of wedlock in 1881. i wonder if her husband knew about this as gr grandad was brought up by his grandparents he would have only been two when the marriage took place. i will have to get marriage cert to see if her father matches what i already know. much appreciated dawn
