I am trying to trace the Whitehead side of my family tree and I am TOTALLY stuck!!!! I have got back to George Whitehead b. 1824 in Loughborough, Leicestershire. (Found this info from the 1881 census). I found out that he married a lady named Elizabeth Winfield (b. 1823 in Radford, Nottingham) on March 1, 1848 in Nottingham. From the marriage certificate I know that George's father was also named George. George and Elizabeth had the following children: George Charles Emma John Sarah I have found George and Elizabeth on the 1851 census, but Whitehead has been mis-spelt as Whitchead and they have George's DOB wrong (1814 instead of 1824). However this is where I have ground to a halt!! I cannot trace any of George's brothers or sisters and I cannot find his mother or father on the earlier census'. WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE? I am living in Canada at the moment so I am very dependant on the internet for finding out information! PLEASE HELP!

Hi Gemma, Your George (born Loughborough) and Elizabeth Whitehead appear on the 1881 census in Radford, Nottingham with their youngest son John. By 1891 Elizabeth is a widow and has her son John still with her plus a grandaughter named Kate, they are living in Arnold, Nottingham. Elizabeth does not appear on the 1901 census but John is lodging with another Whitehead family, still in Arnold. Perhaps the wife of one of his older brothers? From this I would asume that George died between 1881 and 1891 and Elizabeth between 1891 and 1901.

George Senior died in the December quarter of 1887 his death was registered in East Retford, he was 63. It appears that the Rosetta Whitehead that John is lodging with in 1901 was his brother George's wife, George Junior died in 1900. George and Rosetta Whitehead and their family appear on the 1881 census.
