Yes i have the certificate, William's father is given as Thomas. Doesn't say he is deceased, but i assume he is. I think William then went to stay with his Uncle Elisha hence him being in the 1851 census with Elizabeth and her children. Alexander was a son of Sarah Pithers (William's cousin) and can be seen in 1851, though he is down as 'son' also. Very complicated i must say.

Just wondering how do you think Alexander and William are related? Marriages Sep 1862 Pethers William Kensington 1a 83 Do you have this marriage cert? Val

Val, i know who Alexander was, but the William Peters you listed might be interesting to look into. Pethers can be easily mistranscribed as Peters

Hi who was your GGG Grandfather? From Val

*~Lizbeth~* Report 29 Jun 2007 16:10

Thanks again Vera. 1841 is the crucial census year in working out the parentage of my ggg grandfather....in 1851 he is listed as Elizabeth's son, but i have information contradicting this idea. I guess the directories are the next step. Liz

Hi Liz, I found this about London street directories....... maybe someone might be able to help... The first Post Office Directory of London was published in 1799. The 1837 edition was acquired by Frederick Kelly who in 1840, as Kelly and Company, found it expedient to bring the publication into line with its more popular rivals issued by Pigot and Robson. The directory size increased and gained a Trades section. The directory was further improved in 1841 by the addition of a street directory. Regards Vera

Hi, I had a quick look on www(.)historicaldirectories(.)org - remove brackets - but the only listing I could find for Pethers pre 1850 was for a John Pethers, book binder listed at 10 Carthusian St. Best of luck with your search Maria

Im looking for who was resident at 15 Camden place in 1841, Kensington. I've found the right family there in 1851, but cannot for the life of me find them in 41. I know that one of the sons was born at Camden place in 1825, so i assume they were there in 1841. Anyone know how to do this? Details are: Elizabeth Pethers (Pittiers in 1851) born Surrey c1784 and family. Her husband is in Kensington workhouse so she should be head. Liz
