I have just recd. my copy of the Family Tree magazine and insid is a letter from a subscriber asking the following.. A petition has been placed on the website for easier and cheaper access to BMD certificates. The website is...petitions*pm*gov.uk/easyaccessbmd. The more people who sign this the better. 750,000 signatures are reqd. to make this effective. Kathlyn

Has someone said that if 750,000 signatures are got, the price of certs will come down? I'm half expecting them to go up.

Romany No, you need 750,000 signatures to ANY petition, before the government will even consider the petition. Not really sure how you can bring down the price of certs, other than to make them downloadable, but as far as I can see, the DOVE project does not intend to make historic certs downloadable, despite its earlier statement that it would. They seem to have hit some processing snags which makes the project unworkable. OC
