No problem with two similar spellings of a name - just a misunderstanding on part of registrar/a mum who couldnt write. Unfortunately your other queries are much harder to resolve. Ireland has very poor records. You could try familysearch.org on the IGI there but few records have been recorded. |

Can some kind person do a look up for the birth Martin WHELAN, b 1824 Queens County Ireland - parents supposedly William Whelan and Winifred Kelly - Unfortunately I have no additional data - Martin did immigrated to New Zealand and married Elizabeth CANAVAN or WALSH/WELSH. Children's birth certificates name Elizabeth as using both of these surnames - he did not marry twice - I can't explain why she may have done this! Any information of Elizabeth would also be warmly received. I am also trying to find when Martin left Ireland and on which ship - any suggestions as to where to look Thankyou in anticipation Lyn in New Zealand |
