Find Ancestors

The info I now have on the marriage confirms that my Thomas' father is Thomas Sargent he was a Gamekeeper. Thomas Junior states his job to be a private in the Sussex light Infantry at the time of his marriage 24/04/1855. I can't find them in the census anywhere. Hoping someone can help me. Clare

Hi Margaret, I think youv'e cracked it will order certificate to check who this Thomas' father was as his first child was registered in the Brighton registration district the rest Thakeham. So sounds very promising. Thanks for your help. Clare

Hi Reg, Thanks for that info. It now looks like there are three possibilities for parents of Thomas. So I really do need to find this marriage. I've just got back in from the records office after looking for Thomas and Mary' marriage in Cowfold, Nuthurst and East Grinstead. It's not there either. I am beggining to wonder if I will ever find it. I'm not sure where else to look as I've already looked in the three places that I know Thomas to have been. The only Thomas Sargent I could find marrying in the same Q as a Mary in the right time bracket and in Sussex or Surrey is In the Mar Q 1849 and I'm not sure they married each other it, also seems a bit early as she would only have been 14. Clare The family I found on the 1841,51, are living at Quaker Plat/Platt, Lingfield. If thats any help.

Am going to bed now will check back in the morning will try and find marriage in parish registers near where Mary was born tomorrow and see if that sheds any light as I still can't find it in the BMD and they don't appear to have married in thomas' parishes. His marriage cert would tell you the name and occupation of his father. Reg

My husbands G.G. Grandfather was Thomas Sargent born 1831. I have him living in Washington, Sussex on the 1861,71,81,91 and 1901. My problem is their was two Thomas Sargents born 1831 in roughly the same area. One baptised in Mickleham 18th September parents a thomas and Jane Sargent nee Lock. The other baptised in Lingfield 28th August parents a William and Jane Sargent. Have found the Lingfield family in the 1841,51 census but this hasn't helped one way or the other as to whether they are the right ones. I can't find the Mickleham family in the 1841 or 51 census. So how can I prove which is the right family. Thanks for any advice/help you can give me on this one. Clare UPDATE Now have marriage info but still can't find them in the 1841/1851 census
