Thank's OC and Reg.The other details are correct. We know hubby's father married twice,so I couldn't understand why both cert's were different. From the look of the certs they have both been written out by different people as the writing doesn't match. They were married in a Register Office. Maureen

If all the other vital data matches exactly, it might be advisable to contact the GRO and ask them to check that they have copied correctly the info about his status. Reg

Maureen GRO marriage certificates are a copy of the copy of an original, lol. The church register is the original. the Vicar copies this out and sends it to the local Register Office. They then copy it out and send it to the GRO. If it is a registry office wedding, then the local Registry office holds the original and sends a copy of that to the GRO. I have three copies of one marriage certificate, for complicated resons - the original church entry, the local RO and the GRO. All three copies are different, some small details, but the GRO copy has reveresed the names of their fathers, and their ages. OC

I always thought that the marriage cert's we get from GRO were a copy of the original. My father in law died in March this year, and hubby's neice scanned me a copy of of their marriage cert.It is different to the one I got from GRO.The one I ordered said he was a Bachelor and the original one said he was a Widower.I asked a friend of mine about it and she doesn't know why it is different.Has anyone else come across this before?
