Now Ive got to go about trying to trace Stephen. When my father last saw him in the early 70's, he was living in Stevenage, Herts. I suppose the trying to find board would be a good place to start. :-)

David When you go into Ancestry, then to BMD, go on this part Complete BMD Index ranges & Images 1837-1983 This collection works on name ranges and locates the relevant index page. You can then easily scroll around the page to find the person you are searching for. Births Marriages Deaths Find out how to search the Indexes Which is the 1st section

David You wont finding anything after about 1910 using FreeBMD or the partial index on Ancestry because it has been transcribed yet. Paste this address and select the full index. http://www*ancestry*co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx You should also find a possible for Stephen in 1948 Jacqui

I am 2000 percent sure that I am doing everything right. I researched my whole family tree using Ancestry without problems. The last time I used Ancestry was a couple of months ago, then everything worked fine. It makes no sense to me. For some reason ancestry isnt sending me any results back. Freebmd(.)org(.)uk also doesnt like me anymore :-(

David I've found Joyce without any problems. Are you sure you are searcing the full index of images? The partial index will not cover the years you are after as it is not fully transcribed. Jacqui

Ancestry(.)co(.)uk remove brackets will take you to the site. You can't search a quarter unless you enter a name.

Hi Kitty, thanks for looking but i cant use Ancestry. Please try this search because when i try I get no returns. Am I going mad? Joyce Woolner Dec. qtr. 1927, Hampstead, 1a, 750 http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=0&gsfn=Joyce&gsln=Woolner&sx=&f8=Oct-Nov-Dec&rg_f7__date=1927&rs_f7__date=0&f5=1a&f6=750&f4=Hampstead&f3=London&f2=&gskw=&prox=1&db=freebmdbirth&ti=0&ti.si=0&gl=&gss=mp-freebmdbirth&gst=&so=3

I have just had a quick look and found 5 possibles in just 3 different quarters. Then I wondered if you are looking at the complete BMD index rather than the partial ones. The complete index shows the actual images. Go to the Ancestry home page then click on England and Wales BMD Indexes Updated, its under the search box in the right hand column Then select the top Complete births and enter the name and years you want to look at. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Kitty, I dont even know Stephens fathers real first name, just his nickname, Dinky, which is what everyone including my father and Nan called him. They would have got married in North London shortly after the war (Dinky was a pilot/navigator on the Lancasters).

David

David Report 25 Jun 2007 18:04

My father is 100% sure that it is North London, but cant be sure about the age. I would look myself but for some reason whenever i search ancestry or BMD, I come back with zero returns, even on entries I know are there. Its driving me crazy. I dont know if it is a problem with my firewall, I have written to ancestry but they havnt replied yet.

Do you know the year and place that Stephens parents married, if so the entry for his father will show his mothers maiden name.

ErikaH Report 25 Jun 2007 17:51

As you are unsure of the spelling of the forename, don't know MMN, and are also not sure of year and location, it's not exactly an easy task............ Reg

David

David Report 25 Jun 2007 17:46

I cant use either ancestry or freebmd on pc, otherwise I would search for myself. It is the certificate ref number that I am after.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 25 Jun 2007 17:35

If you're looking for his birth reg'n, just register with Ancestry and search the full records. If, however, you wish to locate this person now...........use the trying to find board............designed for the purpose. Reg

I am trying to find my dads cousin. His name is Stephen/Steven Bennett and he would have been born about 1947 (give or take a couple of years in North London), possibly Edgeware. I dont know the maiden name of Stephens mother, only her Christian name, Eileen. Thanks in advance. Dave Woolner
