Southampton have computer records of burials in the city's cemeteries so they could check around the 22years old date if she stayed in that area. The bereavement office deals with this in Bugle Street, Southampton. Gwyn

Thank you very much, Reggie and Gwyneth, for your replies. There are 2 different stories; either my grandmother Elsie died when she was about 22, or she was sent to a mental institution for having an illegitimate child at 18 - maybe both. It's highly unlikely she ever married. Maybe Ancestry will update BMD soon - they're a very helpful resource.

When was she last known to be alive? eg. witness at a marriage, informant of a death etc. ...or family photos at a wedding. What name was she using and roughly where did she live.? Did she stay in Southampton? Gwyn

Did she marry? If so, you will have to look for the death registration under her married name. Reg

I really need to investigate the circumstances of my grandmother's death, but I have no idea when she died. Her name was Elsie Alice Jones, born 20/11/1897 in Freemantle, Southampton, registration district South Stoneham. Can anybody help, please?
