Find Ancestors

Wonder if anyone could help me please. I am looking for the birth of a John Stradling (a mariner). Possibly born south shieldas as he married there and had children there. I have his marriage certificate to Margaret Scrimger. On it is gives his age which would work him out to be born c1850. However, I can't find his birth details. I am also trying to find his parents. On Johns marriage certificate it states his father as Alexander Stradling who was a broker. I can't find a birth of an Alexander Stradling from South Shields. Did he come from somewhere else? Any help mch appreciated.

Sorry, thought he was born South Shields but no evidence of that. It was just that he married there and had children there too.
