Age at death can quite often be wrongly recorded.... but for many reasons. We have someone born and baptised in 1840. When he died in 1915, he was supposedly 68.........information given by his 3rd wife. At their marriage in 1908, he had lowered his age by several years to make it nearer the bride's age. She gave information to the best of her knowledge, perpetuating the lie. Gwyn

Hi guys, was wondering if anyone had an opinion on this: I have found a record on BIVRI of my GGgrandmother's birth, the parent's names correspond to the names on her death certificate. It states she was born in 1871 in Co Leitrim. On the 1901 census for glasgow her age is recorded as 30 - this would be right. However, she died in 1933, and her age was recorded as 57 years old. This would mean she was born circa 1876!!! I can't find her marriage certificate, even though I have the date and place from all her children's birth certificates, so I'm unsure what that would say. Is this most likely just a clerical error or would there be any other reason for 5 years of her life to have dissapeared?!?!?! Thanks, Pamela xxx
