thanks everyone yes it is her on the census, ellen was born 17th of september 1841, that quarter parish of steynton mother maria, no dad named, but on her wedding states her dad as thomas lewis occupation tailor, maria's sister martha is unmarried also but had a son thomas henry lewis born 4th july 1850, no dad on their either on the cert, milford was a big fishing port in this time, oh well they had a bit of love, maria was a laundress by trade, they are the furthest i can go back on this family, thank you so much for trying YOUR THE BEST :o)

Shirley on the 1841 census it dosen't give relationships but there is a Thomas Lewis who is a Tailor in the same household as Maria but from the age difference I would say he is her brother, but who knows? On the 1851 census Maria is unmarried living with her daughter Ellen Lewis and her older sister Sayre ? Lewis 57. On the 1861 she is showing as widowed living with her sister Martha Lewis. Onto the 1871 where she is showing as unmarried. I think this is a case where a name was made up on the marriage certificate for the father of the bride rather than leaving it blank, as she was born to an unmarried Maria Lewis. Julie
