The 252 you refer to is I'm afraid far from being a commendation. It is the number of the form (RAF F252) used by the RAF, upon which is written the details of an offence charged against an individual. Whether a trivial or serious matter, the same form (or charge sheet) is used. As Heather stated in the previous reply, the RAF was formed after the Army's Royal Flying Corps & Naval Flying Service merged in April 1918. Having said that, it is always possible that the experienced Sergeant Major referred to was attached to some recently formed RAF unit perhaps as a trainer???

Bit confused over the dates and the use of RAF there as the RAF wasnt formed til I believe late 1918. Before that it was part of the army. If you go to the National Archives online that should give you details of anything they hold for that period. You could have a search for names on there? Have a google for that base name in Lincolnshire.

I have found an Autograph book (which looks like the modern day year book) i have worked out that it is Mary Kendalls, my nanas grans within this the dates range from 1913 - 1919 she was a Corporal in the WRAF One of the poems jokes about a 252.... was that some sort of commendation?? I also found a pass to be absent from quarters Date: Friday 28th Feb 1919 No:1467 Rank: Sgt Major Name: Raymond V i cant read the captaain s name who signed it - to squigly Reason why im askin this is because Mary had a daughter before her marriage and i think this raymond fellow could her father all pages are signed and have RAF or WRAF written under them. And what i am presuming is the base/barrocks is Scampton Lincoln Any help is always grateful! Many Many Many Thanks Once Again Rach
