Hello I have just found a Juliana and George Vogel arriving in Winnipeg Manitoba but I do not have a subscription I would be most grateful if someone who does could tell me what information there is about them as my other great grandparents were George and Juliana Vogel and they had a son Jacob who also shows up. With thanks Danielle

Dan

Dan Report 20 Jun 2007 01:20

Hi Lisa Thank you for your interest in this. My Vogels were: George Vogel born c1865 (Russia) and wife Juliana (Julia) Vogel born 1870 Russia. Arrived in New York in 1892 on the Elbe, lived in South Dakota until about 1909 when they moved to Saskatchewan (Big Stick?) Children are: Christine, Jacob, Martha, George, Beatrice, Matilda/Tilly, Teresa/Tessie all except Christina born in South Dakota . I dont have them in any census except the 1900 McPherson County, South Dakota USA. With thanks Danielle

They are on a 1900 census in South Dakota? Can't see them - will try again. Will have a look in Canada, but records in the West (Canada) are a little difficult to come by.

Just came across this on Rootsweb on a page about one-room schoolhouses in Saskatchewan: Email: Denise Daubert Web Page: Comments: I would like to pass on my thanks for a beautifully designed/written/presented website on the One Room School Project! In the midst of compiling family history for the Vogel Family who arrived in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1908 (these Russian children attended Amdewanda School) and another side of the family who came to Kennedy about the same time - I was thrilled to navigate your site and find information placing the Amdewanda School geographically and a photo of the Kenndy School, built in 1905. Accessing the booklet on early Saskatachewan women teachers gave me a 'sense' of the times when my husband's two grandmothers were educated in one room school houses. Thank you for a wonderful project that you are sharing with everyone! Denise Daubert --------------------------------------------------

Danielle, did you see the attestation papers for son, Jacob Daniel on the collectionscanada site?

Dan

Dan Report 20 Jun 2007 01:48

Yes I did thanks Margaret, only yesterday!! Jacob was my great grandfather I will order the other pages. I am just trying to find the pages your referred to earlier by Denise as I have a photo of a Maple Creek Schoolhouse in Sask, with my Grandfather and his classmates taken c1925. In the 1900 US census they are in McPherson County. George died 1934 in Eastend Sask and Juliana died in North Dakota in 1924, whilst visiting her daughter Theresa. Thanks again Danielle
