I dont know the mothers name yet..... Maria BUTLER married William PEARSON 1890 northfleet Kent. She gave her age as 20 and father as William BUTLER labourer. on 1891 census her birth place is Woolwich. On 1881 census she is in the metropolitan district school along with her brother Charles BUTLER 1866 Woolwich. I know they are siblings as the school records both say their nearest relative is in the school. And they are both illegitimate and they are church of england. So I hired the film of the parish records and went to view it yesterday. I found some other BUTLERs in the the parish records but not mine....... I feel they will probably be mistranscribed on the census. If Maria is born 1870 I should imagine that her mother would still be in the area in 1871. Neither birth has been registered. I think I have looked at every angle now. Unless anybody else has any ideas.

Hi, Have left this message on your other thread..... I would have thought if they were in an institution in 1871 it would be on the census.....apart from being missed off....maybe they were registered at that time on the census with different surnames. Do you know their mothers name and any details? Regards Vera

I think I have exhausted every avenue now trying to find my Maria BUTLER b 1870 Woolwich and brother Charles BUTLER b 1866 Woolwich. THey are not the ones born Hampstead even though at first glance it looks like them. THat Maria shows up on 1891 with her married name at her parents house. I am wondering if there would have been a home or workhouse for unmarried mothers that has not been transcribed onto the census. Any ideas please?
