Little Lost Report 17 Jun 2007 09:59

I think I have explored every avenue trying to find Maria BUTLER b 1870 Woolwich and brother Charles BUTLER b 1866 Woolwich. Neither of their births are registered and so far have failed to locte them on 1871. Yesterady I looked at the parish registers for Woolwich as they are said to be church of England on their school record from where they were on 1881. But no joy. I did find some other Butlers though and wondered if they may hold a clue. so could I have the details of all household residents on the following please? Frank Taylor BUTLER b 1867 son of Clement and Louisa Henrietta Florence BUTLER b 1867 daughter of James and Catherine Frederick William BUTLER b 1867 son of Alfred andSarah Mabel Marion BUTLER b 1867 daughter of John and Lucy. Thank you I am hoping that maybe one of them is harbouring my baby Maria LOL

Thank you Dont think there is anything here to give a clue though. I feel they must be on 1871 but mistranscribed. They are not the ones born Hampstead as that Maria is later on 1891 with her married name at her parents house. It looks like that is my family at first but then when you look later you can see it isnt. My Maria Butler married William Pearson

I think I have eliminated that one already Sue as they are on 1881. My Maria and Charles are in a school and described as illegitimate. Just wondering if there would have been some sort of home or workhouse for unmarried mothers in 1871 that isnt listed on the census

Hi, I would have thought if it was an institution they were in, that it would have been on the census....only other explanation apart fron being missed off.....they were for some reason given different surnames. Very frustrating, when we can't find our ancestors !!! Regards Vera
