Hi Ann, Sorry for the delay in replying but we have been away on holiday and just got back yesterday. Thank you for your 2 postings. I do actually have a copy of my gt grandfathers will but I was really interested in getting hold of his death certificate for the additional information. I will try your google suggestion thanks but sadly I got grade 9 at O level in French a long time ago!! I did email the Town Mayor of Nice but did not get a reply. The certificates are held by the Town Mayor aren't they or have I got it wrong? Thanks again for your suggestion. I may take you up on your offer re translation if I get stuck. Cheers Carl

Also, Google French genealogy. All records are held locally rather than nationally. If you need any help with the language, just pm me!

It seems that the overseas index are by no means complete. If the person lived in Nice, perhaps they were wealthy! They may have left a will, proved in this country, so might be worth looking at the National Probate Index.

Hi Reggie, Thanks - I have checked those records both at the Family Record Centre in person and online at Findmypast but to no avail. His obituary clearly states he died in Nice and even gives the street name. It's a mystery from the consul point of view. Cheers

All events involving British citizens are recorded by the GRO in the overseas index. This is available on findmypast website Reg

Does anyone know the email or postal address to contact to obtain a copy of a death certificate for a British Citizen who died in Nice in 1929? Many thanks. Carl P.S. I shall not be accessing my emails after tomorrow for a few days so please bear with me and I'll reply to all or any replies when I return - thanks again.
