can anyone help! my great grandmother turns 100 in a month (hoping she makes it so much already been arranged singing postman etc) the home wants my nan to write a little something about her and her life and after many attempts i eventually found her birth certificate so much red tape for things hoping that someone may be able to help with tracing her mother (my great great grandmother) the problems are: - the copperplate record of my great grandmother says her mother was Nellie or possibly Millie (millicent)Holmes (although she may of changed it for the birth certificate but we are going on these 2 names) My great grandmother was then adopted (apparently records don't go that far back to find who her adoptive parents were) her mother apparently went to war in 1914 as a volunteer ambulance driver and possibly died in France. I wish I had more to go on to make it easier but with great gran being 99 her memory isn't to good. Any ideas or help greatly appreciated Thank - You Gemma

Gemma you have not told us your Great Grandmothers name or where she was born? Do you have her marriage certificate, if you do is there a father mentioned? Georgina.

Hello Gemma, There is a record for a Miss M B Holmes volunteer on the National Roll of Honor for WW1. She was from Eling Lane, Totton, Hants. Could this be your lady? Deb:)

As far as I know she never got married and the birth certificate for my great grandmother doesn't have the father on it. my great grandmother is called Florence Holmes and she was born in Walthemstow, London
