You need to register but it is free, go to Ancestry, look for the BMD records and there should be two set, the partial ones nad the complete ones. You need the complete ones and you have to search year by year. You can't do a blanket search like you can on the partial ones. Sam x

Hi Lindsey, As Sam has said, divorce records are not on line. The divorce records are a set of registers of decrees nisi and absolute, with their indexes. These are kept by the Principal Registry of the Family Division (PRFD), and are not accessible by the public. Instead, officials will carry out a paid search of the index, and certified copies of the decrees can be bought. You can contact them at: Principal Registry of the Family Division First Avenue House 42-49 High Holborn London WC2V 6NP Tel: 020 7947 6971 or (international) +44 7947 6971 Jay

That's why you can't find him. The partial index doesn't cover 1919. It is free to search on Ancestry though. Skillen Joseph J N - MMN Skillen - Toxteth P - 8b 260 Registered Q2 of 1919. Sam x

He would be listed on the BMD index whether he was illegitimate or not. Are you checking the complete index and not just the partial freeBMD one? Have you checked under mother's maiden name and her married name? Sam x
