Thanks a lot Mike for your help. I have come across variations with other names I have searched for before, it can throw you a bit and send you in the wrong direction. Thanks for getting me back on track and for taking the time to help me. Regards Janet

Hi Janet. I have found a record relating to:- Catharine Haythornthwaite, registered in the 2nd Qtr 1863 in the district of Fylde (only 3 miles from Kirkham) The Volume Ref is 8e Page 568. I have also found a likely record in the 1871 Census. Catherine Hauthornwaite Born in 1863 is the daughter of the head of the house - Alice - no father registered and siblings Anne 2 Years old : Thomas 11 years Old (Catherine is given as 8 years old) Data for census is Reg District - Fylde, Sub district - Kirkham, Ed, institution, or vessel - 6: Household schedule number - 63. Do not be put off by the name spelling variations, this is quite common at this period. Hope this is of assistance. Mike Nye

Janet, I'm assuming you have no details of the mother? She could have been registered with her mother's surname if her parents were unmarried.
