Thanks all...i can't see that they would have two sons called Charles so i suppose Charles Lowe the Snr was married before ! will have to get some certs !

All the children on the 1901 census are labelled as step-children except for the last one, Charles E., aged 1. On the 1891, for Caroline, the S for single has been crossed out and replaced with M for married. Mind you there's no husband mentioned and yet she went on to have 2 more children before marrying Charles Lowe. Curious, too, that she had 2 sons named Charles, one with first partner then one with Charles.

No Idea Reg ..he is the husband of my Caroline Cotton [[Catton on the 1891] he married her in 1900 It looks as if Caroline had not been married before [she has 4 children with her on the 1891 surname catton]..
