Just had a quick look, mum was born in Yorkshire and the elder kids were born in Chatham. That would indicate military. When you are looking for them, there does seem to be a lot of scope for variation on the name, bear that in mind. Have a look on freebmd to see if you can find any of the kids birth refs. Oh and do check in case there is another family with this name and this lot arent yours after all!

I dare say he could - I mean usually a Chelsea pensioner would be someone injured or retired from the army but that doesnt mean he couldnt take another job - a gamekeeper would use a gun and a soldier should have experience of that! You may want to see if the local records office has anything on his gamekeepers licence which he should have had. If he were working for a local estate he may also appear on their pay records. And of course if he were in the army, you have that source of info aswell. Check where the older kids were born, it should give some idea of his service. Have you got Harriets birth cert? That would give mum and dads names and his occupation at that time which may be of use? If that lot are them, it probably means that Fred married before registration which is a shame as you wont be able to get their marriage cert for their parents. But you could try the IGI .

Thanks for that Heather Could he have become a game keeper even though he was a Chelsea Pensioner, I really don't know an awful lot about this subject. Regards Diane

Hello Fox on the Rocks This could possibly be them because Seal is only 2 miles from Sevenoaks and I have just discovered Harriet had a brother John. Many thanks for your time and for searching for me. Regards Diane

Unfortunately I do not know. The only information I have is from Harriets marriage certificate. which gives fathers name as Frederick and occupation as a game keeper. Diane
