Thanks Carol. It is from that info that I found the newsaper clippings mentioned above. Unfortunately I don't have a subscription to newspapers archives to read them. It mentions the Broadstairs town council deciding to move the boat in 1949. There is a link to my Gran which is why I am trying to find out this info! I am hoping that a kind person who already has a subscription will be kind enough to take a look for me! |

Googled and saw this! A bit of further information about this lifeboat. A clipping from Parry Jones' scrapbook, by the title of 'Lusitania Relics' (ca 1930) mentions a 'raft' from the Lusitania which had been sold by the Red Cross, presumably at auction, to 'A resident' who installed it on the Broadstairs Jetty- which I am assuming is this collapsible. A second 1930s clipping on the subject of relics mentions that a Lusitania lifeboat, then much decayed, was visible at extreme low tide on the river bottom at Milford Haven, although the author is silent on details such as how the lifeboat got there, how he or she knew it was from the Lusitania etc. |

Does anyone already have a subscription to the newspaper archive com and would kindly look up the following two articles please? The Independent Record, Staurday May 21, 1949 and The Renno Evening Gazette, Thursday May 19, 1949. Both articles relate to the Lusitania lifeboat on Broadstairs pier and it is info on this I would like. Would be most grateful, many thanks. |
