Hi Di, Thank you once again for the usefull tips on unassisted passage. I will keep a check on them. 3261/1905 MACNAMARA AGNES HENRY 43 YRS CARDIFF WALLSEND I did see this death and thought it could be a possibility. Agnes's Parents names were John & Agnes. But Henry was a very prominent name in her family! She wouldn't have been in Cardiff that long but that would have been about her age. I have found the death of Thomas J Macnamara 1908 Granville I guess if I get this I might find some information on it. Anyway hope you have a good week and that your weather improves. Alison

Hi Alison I think that James and Agnes may have come out as unassisted passengers - it might be hard to find them but if the birth of Robert in 1885 is him, you are getting a narrower time frame. If you can get James death cert, it should tell you children of the marriage and how long he lived in NSW, some of which might help. Is this Agnes death ? 3261/1905 MACNAMARA AGNES HENRY 43 YRS CARDIFF WALLSEND This looks like death of daughter Agnes Pattison - it matches the birth. 2255/1891 PATTISON AGNES JAMES AGNES ADAMSTOWN The best I can suggest is checking the website of unassisted passengers, the lists for the 1880s are growing all the time and you might come across them one day. especially if the death certs can narrow down the time - I find that they mostly quite accurate. www.mariners.records.nsw.gov.au Di

Hi Di, Sorry my fault should have put Cardiff Oz ! What a shame no census! Thought I had missed out on something for a moment! Thank you for the transription advice ...what a good idea $10 cheaper. I wonder if Agnes & James could have sailed to another part of oz before coming to Sydney! Anyway Di thank you once again for your Help. Alison

Hi Sorry there is no census for Australia, for some reason I thought you meant Cardiff Wales (lol) but Cardiff is also a Newcastle suburb. So everything else fits together pretty well. There is a cheaper way to get NSW certificates - transcription agents will get you a copy for $15. These are good for everything except as a legal document. There are three and they are all good - there websites are listed on the page below: http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToSearch.htm#TranscriptionAgent The NSW BDMs are on-lline to search at www.bdm.nsw.gov.au Di Di

Hi Diane, Thank you for the information. The Agnes age 3 on the Roslin Castle is the neice of the Agnes I am looking for. Her sister Mary also Married a Paterson, Robert. (no relation to james) It gets so confusing when they can't stick to one spelling. Pattison or Patterson And the death you have found of James's parents Robert & Isabella I think could well be the correct one I will order it. Its so expensive at $25 a pop. I hadn't spotted the births of the children of Agnes & James so this is a good possibility. Especially if the area is around Newcastle. Thank you. I guess if they are Agnes's children they would be with her after she married Thomas Macnamara in 1897 .I haven't seen any census of Australia. Will I be able to veiw I them ? Cheers Ali in Perth( not wet & windy) sorry!

Hi again These are the children born to a couple of James and Agnes Patterson/Pattisons in the relevant period. Did she and her new husband have any (Patterson) children with them in 1901 census ? Minmi and Adamstown are both suburbs of Newcastle NSW. But I don't know if these are the same couple or different. 25112/1885 PATTERSON ROBERT JAMES AGNES MINMI 3710/1891 PATTISON AGNES JAMES AGNES ADAMSTOWN Looking again at the deaths for James - what about the 1894 death of James the son of Robert and Isabella, or is it just a co-incidence ?
