Narrow your search down: Cheshire is too general. Go for specific places or parishes. Browse the Cheshire bookshelves while you are there - there will be loads of stuff to distract you!! Enjoy your day. Janice

only advice i can give is stay focused on what your looking for, i went from yorkshire to lewes records office to find a few people ,but i got so engrossed in something else i only did half of what i wanted to. great places though,

i am going to pay a visit to the sog tomorrow but as this is my first venture to a place like this i am a bit lost as to where to begin once i get there. i have had a look online at their holdings to try and make a list of what i want to look at but am not sure im getting it right. i am really wanting to find any info on my 3x gt grandfather john kay c 1804 poulton cum seacombe. he was a canalman/fisherman. i know from certs that he married mary davies c1809 possibly at st johns old haymarket liverpool in 1824. i want to check up on this and find their parents if possible and also if they had any siblings. (i have already traced their children) is there anything in particular i should aim to look at while at the library? im afraid the array of records that come up when i search for 'cheshire' is bewildering!! any hints/tips very welcome1 thanx carolex
