I seem to remember you had to have been a serving soldier at the Tower to marry in it. So I dont quite understand how a Works Foreman would have married there. And you say her father wasnt a soldier either? But Colchester is also a garrison town. Its that occupation that is flumoxing me.There has to be a military connection there somewhere. Does the cert not give an age for him? |

Yes Albert's age is 30 on 2nd Aug 1913. Again though, with no more info about him, I can't distinguish him from all the other Albert Harris's that come up on the census entries. As for Charles - I was figuring that if he has his occupation down as 'Indenedent' i was taking this to mean he supported himself off independent means. Could he perhaps have had a link some how with the tower of london from a military point of view? ( i also know that he was at the wedding as his name is at the bottom as a witness although there's no mention of a female Harris) Oh I forgot - Elizabeth's father was a bricklayer who had moved up from rural berkshire before Elizabeth's birth. |

I'm trying to track down some more information regarding an ancestors marriage which took place in the Royal Chapel of St Peter Ad Vincula (i.e. chapel at tower of London). I know that Elizabeth Cates Knapp married Albert Harris on 2nd August 1913 as i have the Marriage Cert. I know from this that Albert was listed as living in Colchester at time of marriage as a'Foreman of Works' but i don't know if he was actually from Colchester. Nothing seems obvious from the census entries I've found of Familysearch & online census records etc. I know that Albert's Dad was called Charles harris and that his occupation was listed as 'Indepedent'. I have 2 goals: 1) to find out why Elizabeth & Albert got married in Royal Chapel - did they just live in the area or did either Albert or his father have to have a connection to it? 2) i can't trace the arris line back any further because I only have the info on the marriage cert & it's not enough to dentify them on the census' Any help or advice gratefully recv'd! |
