HI KAZ WITH MY GREAT UNCLE ERNIES ADOPTION I FOUND HIS ADOPTED FAMILY THROUGH THE WAR GRAVES COMMISSION, WHEN UNCLE ERNIE WAS IN THE NAVAL RESERVE, I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IF A FAMILY MEMBER COULD NOT TAKE ON A CHILD AS WAS IN UNCLE ERNIES CASE SOMETIMES EVEN A FAMILY FRIEND WOULD TAKE THE CHILD ON, UNCLE ERNIE HAD TO GO TO THE WORKHOUSE WITH MY GRANDFER BEFORE HE WAS ADOPTED, AND THE BEST THING WAS THE ADOPTED FAMILY KEPT UNCLE ERNIES OWN SURNAME OR WE WOULD NOT HAVE EVER TRACED HIM. WHEN LOOKING AT THE ADOPTED FAMILY CENSUS THE MOTHER PREVIOUSLY CAME FROM A TOWN WHERE UNCLE ERNIES FAMILY CAME FROM, HE WAS JUST LUCKY TO FIND SOMEONE TO LOVE HIM, AS HIS MAM DIED 8 MONTHS PREGNANT. I have just recieved a birth certificate for a relative of my sister in laws Berna Clewett born 1913 Leicester and gives her parents as William and Blanche Elize nee Foster and they also married there earlier that year after looking for a Blanches birth found that one with same name was born 1889 Dorset whos mother was infact a relative of mine Berna wasnt raised by her parents but by a William Bartlett and wife Gertrude Nee Masters here in Weymouth,so thought perhaps Berna was left an orphan but it seems the Clewetts had a son William in 1918 Bridport Dorset. Back then would they have just handed over a child to anyone or would they have to have been a family conection between the Clewetts and the Bartletts?as not come across anything so far, also any suggestions why they would have given the child away?seem to be going round in circles with it at the moment Kaz
