Please can you help? I am unable to find the following husband and wife in the 1881 census. George Carter b1832 Cheltenham Gloucestershire Eliza Carter b1830 Painswick They married in 1853. 1861 they were in Devon 1871 they were in Hertfordshire 1881 who knows where ??? Possibly somewhere in Hertfordshire 1891 they were in Hertfordshire 1901 he was widowed and was in Cheltenham Fingers crossed Tricia

Hi Maid Marion and Glitter Baby Thanks for your replies. 1861: George was a railway worker ( in Devon) 1871: A gas manager in Little Amwell Hertfordshire 1891: Manager of a gas works in Buntingford Hertfordshire I assume he was still in a gas works in 1881, his son was shown as a gas man living in Datchworth so I tend to think that they were probably working together. regards Tricia
