Is this Lottie's brother on attestation papers for soldiers of First World War? Alexander Mathias born Hampshire, England, 16 Aug.1892. Next-of-kin, sister Mrs. Lottie Danford, 93 St. Patrick St., St. John, New Brunswick. Enlisted 24 Sep. 1914.

Thanks so much anyway Lynn, that's the problem I've been having, can't find them anywhere. Took forever to find George as it was as the name was changed a few years after they immigrated to Canada. My Gran who is 90 was raised with the surname Danford not Denford. You may be right that they eloped or (teehee never married) which wouldn't surprise me. Long strange family history on this line. Good old George was a traveller through the years and my Gran says she won't be surprised to find he may have had another family somewhere else. lolol. Thanks again so much for your help your passenger info was a big help. Best wishes Deb

Again Lynn Groves, I have checked out the passenger list and yes that is them. Alex Mathias was Lotties brother. That is them on the 1911 census but still no marriage record can be found. have checked everywhere I can think off. George Denford was actually Albert George Denford - hatherleigh Devon Lottie was actually Charlotte Mary Mathias - brandford devon. As they were listed on the passenger list as both being Denford am I to assume they married prior to sailing or could they have gotten married on the ship or oops maybe lied about their marital status.

I am so sorry I didn't get back to my message, had a family emergency and have been out of town for the past four days. Thank you so so much for your time on this one. Lynn you are a saint. So it looks like they were married prior to leaving England so then where is the marriage record. Again I am so sorry and thanks so much for your work. Debs

Hi Are you sure they married in England. I found Albert in 1901 (aged 14) living with his parents, Walter and Ann. I found Charlotte (Lottie ) in 1901 aged 12 living with mother Priscilla and 7 siblings. Check the passenger lists to see if Charlotte travelled under her maiden or married name. Remember that the captain of ships could also marry passengers
