I have my one of 1937. When I married in 1957 my Mum gave me my original birth cert and the baptism card and a postcard size picture of me at 9 months. She did the same for each of my siblings saying the certs etc belonged to us, Am grateful she did Shirley

Sheila- How sad! But at the same time, how lovely that they have been kept so carefully, and that you now have them. Bee.

An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 27 May 2007 22:20

Sheila Not sure whether to cheer or cry for you! My mother had a stillborn son in 1953. He was never spoken of again, as was the way with these things back then. When I was clearing mum's things, I found a letter, almost falling apart (re-read, over and over again?) from a neighbour, expressing her condolences and saying how very sad my mum must feel. This was either the only letter she got, or the only one she kept. Made me feel so sad. OC

Today I was given 3 old baptism cards for 1926/28 and 1941.They were my brothers,I only ever new one of the little boys, My mother lost all her boys(five) as babies, her four girls survived, I never knew these cards existed, along with these were two birth certificates. My nephew gave them to me,they had been in the attic all this time,my sister who died 21 years ago had looked after them, along with 13 first birthday cards for one of the boys. Knowing I am doing the family tree he brought them to me when he found them. I am so pleased to get them, but sad when I realise what my mother must have felt at her loss. I wondered if others on Genes have saved any of these cards. Regards Sheila
