Yes Im aware of the problems with Rigby in Liverpool - as I said, I did 30 years of ancestry images looking for a death - LOL then I took a chance on one that was right name and age but in London and there it was, informant one of the daughters.

I didnt take offence - just wanted u to know i had done lots of work on the Rigby family...the name John Rigby in st helen's is like John Smith in england...and my grandfather married a Rigby from Liverpool too, so confusion looking ..and he died in Blackburn ( visiting his daughter ) that took months to find....why cudn't the name be something unusual like Shufflebottom....thanks everyone Joanie

The info on an Electoral Roll could be anything up to two years out of date, so he could have died end of 1937 onwards - or maybe many years later, if he went to live somewhere else. And as Heather says, you are registered where you die, even if you die on a day trip to another toen. OC

Joan, hope you dont take offence, but I spent ages looking through 30 years for a Rigby who had lived in Liverpool all their lives. I found her death in Brixton! She had gone down to stay with a daughter and died in London. What I mean is, are you looking further afield than where you believe he should be in case he died out of the area.

Thank you for ur help...sorry i was rechecking to see if i had missed it ....As his daughter was still in the house i thought he might have still been there, i know his 2 nd wife died first coz the distant cuz said they had a letter from a relly to his grand-daughter saying they were sorry Mrs Houghton had died ..well that was his 2nd wifes ( a Widow ) married name to prev hubby...dont think they approved he had re-married after his wifes death ......I assume his daughter or my grandpa reg'd his death......I never knew my grandparents as my Bio father left me when i was 4yrs old and i was adopted by my mothers new hubby - so was told nothing about this side of the family.....and finding any info is like drawring teeth hahahaha..no one knows anything on that side.......thanks everyone Joanie

Don't forget that as it was wartime, many people were 'out of area' and his death may not be in the area that you would expect. Gwyn

Joanie What Dawn means is that, the person who registered the death may not have been sure how old he was. Angela

Maybe it would be worth looking for his wife's death registration to see if she was a widow of...or wife of. That would give you a clearer time frame for his death. Gwyn

You can look for yourself on ancestry complete bmd index - its free and you have a nice narrow time frame so not that many images to look through. Just type a google search for ancestry bmd index and it will take you to the page.

Could he have left a will? It would be quicker to look through the National Probate index than going through the deaths. The index may be available at a large library , or local studies librarynear you
