If you know that the marriage in 1900 is definitely your ancestor, then yes, you would be better buying the marriage certificate first - it should give you his father's name and occupation and also an approximate age for William at the time of marriage (although this can sometimes be out a few years as sometimes people lied when getting married for a number of reasons). Perhaps it could be registered as Caswell, I am probably better buying the marriage cert as if I buy the 'caswell' birth certificate it could well be wrong, do you agree?

I had just found the William Caswell James birth and wondered if that could be the one instead of 'Campbell'. You can order online from:- www.gro.gov.uk/certificates If you click on 'yes' when the form asks if the full GRO reference is known, it will cost you £7 for a certificate. Kath. x

There were 4 William showing for W. Derby in 1883, and this one was the only one with no middle name showing Births Sep 1883 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>James William W.Derby 8b 282 James William Caswell W.Derby 8b 424

Have you found William Campbell James's birth reference? If you buy his birth certificate it will give you his parents names. Have you bought William Campbell James's marriage certificate? This is the reference:- Name: William Campbell James Year of Registration: 1900 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun DISTRICT: Liverpool (1837-1924) County: Lancashire Volume: 8b Page: 60 If you buy this it should give you William's father's name and occupation, which you can then check against the occupations in the census. Hi Again, I have just asked for info on Joseph James on the 1891 and kindly had a great response. Unfortunately I cant confirm if its Joseph and Emma James are the parents of my ancestor William Campbell James( their son) , born c1883, I think he was born Toxteth Park/West Derby Lancashire, he later married Matilda Rogers b1880 in approx 1900 however I think Joseph and Emma are his parents but the date of birth is slightly out on the 1891 census to what I have. The names of his brothers seem realistic as they are names which appear further down my tree however I would like to link it definately in some way. Any tips from anyone? Kind Regards
